Addressing two common issues about the Phoenix metro area: water and jobs.

It is natural to do some research when you are considering making a move to a different state. Many potential buyers are raising some problems that they’ve heard about the Phoenix metro area. Today, I’m going to address some of these common concerns to give you some peace of mind.

1. Water. Contrary to popular belief, Arizona is not on the brink of running out of water. The state has taken steps to prepare for water shortages and reduce the impact of droughts, like aquifer, water shortages, and planning for current and future demand and supply. However, some areas have received bad publicity because of improper development and “hot water” issues. It is best to avoid these problematic areas with research and professional guidance.

“Arizona is positioned very well in terms of employment.”

2. Jobs and unemployment. Arizona’s job market is doing well, with growth from 2.1% to 2.6%, slightly above the national average of 2.3%. From March 2022 to March 2024, the state added 12,900 non-farm jobs. In addition, the labor force participation rate remained steady at 62.2%, ranking 33rd in the nation. In March 2024, Arizona had 151,000 job openings, with a job opening rate of 4.4%. All of this data proves that Arizona is positioned very well in terms of employment.

While water and jobs are often major concerns, there are other factors like affordability, interest rates, the global climate and rising temperatures, border issues, and inflation, which I can discuss next time.
